Trigger Point Dry Needling: A Pain Management Technique Now Offered at InMotion Physical Therapy

Trigger Points (TP) are classically defined as the presence of exquisite tenderness at a nodule in a palpable taut band of muscle. TP's are able to produce referred pain, either spontaneously, or on digital compression. They are thought to form due to increased or altered muscle demands, muscle overload, prolonged muscle contraction, proximal nerve compression, and muscle spasm and shortening.

Trigger Point Dry Needling is an intervention used to deactivate trigger points and loosen shortened muscles to help alleviate pain and restore function. Small thin needles are inserted in the muscle at the trigger points. It is a safe, quick, and relatively comfortable technique to reduce pain. It complements the other services provided in our office including soft tissue and joint mobilization/manipulation and corrective exercise.

I am one of a handful of Doctor of Physical Therapists that have been trained and certified to perform this technique in the state of Ohio. I am excited to offer this new service to appropriate patients to help reduce their pain and restore their function as quickly and as effectively as possible.

Thank you for allowing me to assist in your patients' care and I expect the additional treatment option of Trigger Point Dry Needling in appropriate patients will expedite recovery.

Sincerely,
